Roger Waters: Troubled, But Still In The Pink

December 31st, 2006

There are some rock gods who do not strut about, do scissor jumps or crowd surf. Roger Waters is one of them. He’s no oil painting and he doesn’t attract the attention of the paparazzi. He transcends all of this and holds his place in history as one of the greatest songwriters of all time. His lyrics are especially admired, for their ability to explore emotions.

Children and music-should they start early?

December 29th, 2006

Before the age of three, toy instruments can be an excellent introduction to the real thing and group musical play classes can prepare a child for later study. Singing at any age is highly beneficial and linguistic & musical awareness can begin as early as the fifth month of pregnancy when the fetal brain and ears are wide open to receive stimulus. From the age of 3 years old, a child’s brain circuits are mature enough to begin instrumental and/or vocal lessons. Voice is probably the most important instrument because singing is a tremendous gateway to confident communication and full self-expression. The piano is usually the best musical instrument to start with because it does not require any specific fingering to play. However, children should choose instruments to play by the sounds they like. Kids will practice more if they like the sound of an instrument.Click word study for the rest of this article.

I Wanted to Take up the Music Keyboard.

December 23rd, 2006

I had been playing guitar for years, but I was really getting sick of it.  It’s not the guitar that I don’t like, but the whole culture that goes around it.

There is a certain attitude that almost all guitar players have, and that they are expected to have.  If you are not brash, swaggering, self-centered, and obsessed with showing off, no one wants you to play guitar in a rock band.  I was done with it all.  I wanted to take up the music keyboard.

If Drums Are Your Musical Instrument Of Choice, Start Small

December 20th, 2006

You’ve seen those rock drummers on stage and in videos. Their impressive array includes a half a dozen cymbals or more, at least that many toms, maybe a double base, and perhaps some things you’ve never seen before. How in the world did they learn to incorporate all those musical instruments into their playing? The answer is simple, they started small.

A Woodwind Musical Instrument Is An Emotional Joy

December 19th, 2006

Each family in a band, like your own family, has a special function. The percussion is the heartbeat, the strings (in an orchestra) are the soul, and the brass instruments are the “swagger” of the band. The woodwind musical instruments are quite possibly the most diverse. They are the emotions of the band. The flute and piccolo make for highs and lows that can be either exhilarating or melancholy. The oboe sounds somewhat tender and the clarinet has the gritty sound. The saxophone is the musical instrument in the woodwind family that sets hearts ablaze. This is the softie, the crooner. Each of these musical instruments as well as the subsets of them provides the heart of a band.

Bob Harley Legend

December 14th, 2006

For each of us of the sixties, seventies, and/or eighties, the Bob Marley legend takes on different and specific meaning, rife with peaceful love, spiritual reclamation, and even, at the end, melancholia (at losing Marley to cancer). For some of us, Marley was about supreme reggae— invigorating music and profound lyrics; for others, he was accompaniment to our studies, our search for self, or our spiritual seeking; for still others, Marley was about pure love. The Bob Marley legend began with him, because of him, and continues with those of us who remember him.

Electric Guitar Packages

December 14th, 2006

Electric guitar packages are typically an all in one answer to the problem of getting someone started with an electric guitar.

Is it the best way to go for a beginner though?

In my opinion, probably not. Playing a new musical instrument is not only a labour of love, it is a war against embarrassment. Playing any instrument for the first time could be a painful experience for any unwilling audience and an affront on your ego!

So as far as a guitar is concerned, a good acoustic guitar would be my personal preference to learn an instrument.

Christmas Music

December 10th, 2006

Christmas music is a genre which is normally performed during the time period leading up to, and sometimes shortly past, Christmas. Christmas songs frequently are the focus of holiday themes directly taken from Christmas, but occasionally they have no content addressing the holiday, and instead focus on the winter season as a whole. These songs recognisably fall into several different groupings, depending on both the time and melody of the songs.

Karaoke Singing

December 5th, 2006

This article gives some tips on the art of karaoke singing and I hope it helps to liven up your vocal chords!

Choose a song that you are very familiar with and that suits your style of singing. You have probably heard people murdering a very popular song (usually anything by Anastasia) when they would have sounded 10 times better singing a song that they knew well and suited their voice.

Tip! Practice singing SLOW. If you go too fast you may be practicing “mistakes”.

If possible take your own karaoke disc, I have never known a kj refuse to play a singer’s own disc. You will have practised this to perfection at home and your performance will be 100% better as a result.
