If you are a Methodist who naturally fits this musical scholarship profile, the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts sponsors academic Christian United Methodist scholarships in music for a better education. The music scholarship is not as large as most, but it just might be an easy scholarship to win. If you fit the criteria of the typical Methodist scholarship past winners, you just may walk away with one of the easiest music scholarships you could ever imagine. It will be just a paperwork shuffle for you. If it’s not you that fits into this Christian scholarship then it may be someone you know who can apply for it. One main requirement is that applicants must be a music degree candidate intending to pursue a career in sacred music, either entering as a freshman or already enrolled in an accredited university, college, or school of theology or pursuing academic education in worship or the arts related to worship. As with most things in life, first impressions count, and it is important that you make a good first impression with the audience. The way you look and are dressed has a huge influence on the audience. If you do your American Idol auditions with the Sanjaya look, with a huge pony hawk, you will not likely to be taken very seriously as a performer. On the contrary, you will more than likely be considered the joke of the show. If you want the audience and the American Idol judges to see you as a consummate professional, you need to have fun with your performance, without looking like a class clown trying to sing. I say this because there have been far too many American Idol contestants who move from having a wonderfully good time to looking clownish with their performances. There will never be an American Idol winner dressed in a clown suit, so dress for success.

Look, if you are a talented performer, please do not build up the American Idol auditions to more than they really are. Sure, doing well on your American Idol audition is important, but if you should have a poor performance and are voted off of American Idol, so what, it is not the end of your career. There are a plethora of other shows, musicals, and plays for you to try out for, and being on American Idol is far from the only way for a talented performer to get their career going in the showbiz industry. It is important to give it your very best, but don’t put needless pressure on yourself by making too big a deal out of it. Most importantly, don’t ever let anyone, especially jealous friends or family, discourage you from giving it your all. What other people think should not matter at all, if you think you are good enough to be the next American Idol winner, then go for it!

Surprise, surprise. David Cook won American Idol even after the judges had all but handed the title to David Archuleta the night before. Cook won by twelve million votes so it wasn’t even close. Right before the results were announced, Simon Cowell apologized to Cook for being overly critical of his peformance the night before and said after looking at it again it was much closer than he originally thought. Cowell said that he didn’t care who won for the first time in the seven seasons the show has been on. Hmm…did Cowell know or suspect what the results were already?

I guess, the fact that some of those contestants on the
American Idol tour didn’t work for it kind of irks me. I’m not saying the contestants weren’t talented, but what I am saying is that some of those contestants didn’t earn their shot. There are performers out there who have toiled for years and are far more talented. They didn’t get a television show to boost their careers, and they are far more deserving of such notice. The American Idol tour just seemed to magnify just how inconsistent the American audiences can be, and that in some cases you can just stick anyone up there and audiences will buy into it.

This article tells about the new online lyrics writing contest for “Oceans of Love” from which proceeds will go toward battling cancer. A good cause and lots of fun for song composers!“This is a very inspirational project, as music is a great way to tell a story and help find a cure. Cancer affects too many people and hopefully, the proceeds from this song will help in finding a cure. I look forward to hearing the finished song,” says Shane Bourbonnais, President of Live Nation in Canada.
“Oceans of Love – The Song the World Wrote” will consist of lines entered by contestants each week for 24 consecutive weeks. Once the contest officially begins on Monday, April 9, 2007, line entries will be made online at the songtheworldwrote.com Web site.
