Buying and Swapping Tickets for Concerts Online

September 10th, 2010

I love music, so to me there’s nothing better than going to a huge arena or open-air pavilion to hear a band I like rock out for a couple of hours. Most major acts seem to prefer during the summer months, which means I’ve got to start saving up my cash for all the great shows that are sure to come to town soon. Tickets for concerts are pretty expensive these days, with even lawn seats or upper deck spots creeping ever closer to a hundred bucks per person. But the important thing is getting into the event at all — a difficult prospect for some of the most sought after shows.

Fortunately, I’ve learned a few tricks for getting good concert tickets so I’m usually able to see the artists I’m most interested in. Before the Internet, it used to be that if you weren’t able to get through to TicketMaster on the phone, then your only other shot was to hang around outside the venue and hope to run into a scalper or two. That was a risky proposition, of course, as you could end up paying way too much for the ticket. Worse yet, there was even a chance you’d come away with a fake ticket, leaving you out broke and out of luck.

Now with the Internet, there are a few other ways to get tickets for concerts, even when the shows are sold out. First, you have far greater access to ticket brokers now than ever before. These brokers are usually on the up-and-up, so even though you do have to pay a premium for the passes, at least you can be sure that they sell 100 percent genuine concert tickets. Any broker trying to hand off fakes wouldn’t survive the bad word of mouth.

Another way to score tickets for concerts is to go on a ticket barter site. This only works if you have a highly desirable ticket of your own, such as to another concert or a major sporting event. Then you can trade with whoever would rather go to your event, and both parties come out ahead.

And finally, there’s always a chance of getting tickets for concerts from websites like eBay or Craigslist. Many folks see the potential for a profit if they auction their concert tickets to the highest bidder on eBay or simply selling them outright on Craigslist. There’s no guarantee that you’ll win the auction or be able to afford the seller’s asking price, but it can’t hurt to check these sources if you’re desperate.

Who says you need to camp out overnight in front of the box office or have inside connections to get tickets for concerts? The Internet has leveled the playing field, so as long as you’ve got the required funds, you have a terrific chance of being able to see your favorite band at a live show.

History of Roxy Music

July 6th, 2010

The 1970s was the time for glam rock and Roxy Music was one of the most successful bands around. The band have disbanded and re-formed for different projects over the years. The debonair Bryan Ferry was the charismatic front man and he has also sustained a solo career. Ferry founded the band along with Brian Eno, who later left and became a sought after record producer. Their debut single was Virginia Plain. Other members included Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay and Paul Thompson.

There have been a number of live albums released over the years, the next best thing to listening to Roxy Music live. The first one was Viva, released in 1976 and recorded at the Apollo in Glasgow, City Hall in Newcastle and Wembley Arena. The record features Do the Strand. The High Road is an EP, released in 1983, and again, recorded at the Glasgow Apollo. The four tracks are Can’t Let Go, My Only Love, the Neil young penned Like a Hurricane and Jealous Guy, the John Lennon song that Bryan Ferry had released as a solo record. The Heart Still Beating album from 1990 was pieced together from various performances in Europe during 1982.

I love opera music

May 31st, 2010

I love all kinds of music, but there is definitely something special about opera.
I remember reading a biography of the great operatic italian tenor Pavarotti and learning how about how much he practiced singing. He would spend hours every day at his craft, sometimes singing so long that he lost his voice.

Opera singers certainly enjoy what they are doing, but I think they go into it knowing that a career in opera is what they want, whereas a rock artist or country singer would probably love to make a living as a musician in a band, but their happiness does not necessarily depend on that happening.

The way that I was able to figure this out was by comparing my experiences at the opera with recordings of opera, and comparing opera to other genres of music that I have heard live and recorded.
I am not sure why opera music produces the best singers, but I have a few ideas. First, with country and rock artists, they are usually writing their own songs.

Here’s my review of the Grateful Dead Dead Ahead DVD featuring performances from their Halloween 1980 concert at Radio City Music Hall. These shows were the final two nights of a landmark run that began with 15 concerts at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco, continued for two more at the Saenger Center in New Orleans, and ended with 8 nights in New York. The final night was hosted by the comedy team of Franken and Davis, and the video includes several of their skits.

Explore the UK Outdoor Festivals

May 23rd, 2008

There are billions more to Great Britain music festivals this summer that The Great Escape. From rock by the seaside at Wakestock to folk and acoustic sounds at Cambridge, British Isles festivals vibe is in tremendous health. Tickets for old favourites like Love Music Hate Racism and Festival without Fields continue to go like hot cakes, & with Usher on the Isle of Wight, Michael Jackson at Love Music Hate Racism & Jay-Z at Glastonbury the the UK’s festivals are appealing to a larger demographic range than ever before. Time Out offer the very best Summer Festivals tickets online.

What do folk wish from a music festival? Is it pleasant dance music so festival goers can have fun all night, ear ringing heavy metal music for serious moshing or some astonishing soft folk music while you bask in the sun? What’s farther vital really is the type of surroundings that one are seeking for, the artists & the facilities, all of which at different festivals vary a lot. The principal music festivals gets into swing usually at the end of March beginning of May they happen up and down the British countryside so there are always going to be a great festival that is nearby to festival lovers. There are not really ever any complaints as festival hunters of course are going to select a stunning festival that matches festival hunters and what people are seeking for.

The 1 st time festival goers attend a superb festival from the very minute festival hunters walk in the grounds to set up your tent accommodation you can often feel this fabulous buzz. Festivals usually seem to get funnier year after year. The only disadvantage that appears to get discussed year after year are the massive cost and price of food and drink then again this cant be helped. Folk are no allowed to take any of your own kebabs or beer onto the festival grounds but one are allowed to carry it into your campsite so it makes sense to eat and drink all you can before stepping into the festival grounds this way folk should be able to stop from spending hundreds of money What makes a fine festival great is for obvious reasons the the super weather, the incredible atmosphere the bands and the fierce memories that festival hunters are bound to make along the way.

How to promote a concert

May 20th, 2008

Have you been kind enough to offer your help but now are struggling to know just how to promote a concert?

It’s not that difficult once you apply yourself to the task and really, everything is just common sense. It’s just that you haven’t had to consider it before!

Firstly, time and timing is very important.

Treble check the date of the concert so that there’s no confusion there. (It has happened) Then make sure that any publicity is printed and ready to be displayed in plenty of time. This allows for hold-ups at printers, weekends, bank holidays etc.

You want a good return on ticket sales so don’t leave publicising the event till the last minute. Things like” book now to avoid disappointment” and “when they’re gone they’re gone” are good stock phrases to use.

The design of any posters, flyers or leaflets that you create is vitally important. They have to meet the A.I.D.A criteria. Not sure what that is?

A=attention
I=interest
D=desire
A=action

Basically, the design needs to be good enough/bright enough/unusual enough to attract everyone’s attention. But especially the attention of your target audience.

Some research into what’s grabbing that particular age group’s attention would be a good idea when it comes to promoting a concert.

There should definitely be something of interest in the flyer etc too. Not just a blatant advert. Add some interesting fact, an anniversary of something, the fact that this is a return by popular demand or similar.

Then you’ve got to make the audience want to come – the concert’s got to be unmissable. Why? Use your imagination because people act on their desire.

Finally, if all the above works, then your audience will decide to come because all that’s left for them to do is take action!

Be sure to get this promotional literature everywhere that the potential audience will see it, including the venue itself.

If you or some helpful volunteers are putting flyers out yourselves, it’s best to stick them at around eye level for maximum effect.

Get them in local shops, libraries, shop & café noticeboards, colleges, schools( if that’s the relevant age group), Uni’s, local government halls, council offices, village halls, supermarket & mall boards.

Like I say, any where and everywhere.

Obviously get a good deal on your printing costs if you’re really going for it & don’t worry if you sometimes have to compromise on quality as a ‘rough’ effect for some publicity flyers can have a good unusual effect.

I could go on as there are lots of angles to look at & this has just been a taster on how to promote a concert. But I hope it helps.

Concert for George

March 27th, 2008

George Harrison died of brain cancer on November 29, 2001. One year later the memorial concert for this great musician was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. It is only fitting that this was the place as Harrison was 100% English from the top of his head to the tips of his magical guitar fingers. Many feel he was the overlooked Beatle. Everything was about John and Paul. But most critics feel that George Harrison was the heart and soul of the Beatle’s guitar sound which has since be copied by so many artists. you can view Beatles video clips online too.

Where to go in Iowa to hear the best misic

February 25th, 2008

The Iowa travel guide lists many places to see a concert around the state. The Wells Fargo arena is the largest of the venues and can seat several hundred thousand people and I’ve been told there isn’t a bad seat in the house. There have been many top performers that have played there as well as a few of the lesser known artists. Just forty five minutes north of there is the Iowa State University campus. This is the place to go in central Iowa to see the latest up and coming artists. College campuses have always attracted these sorts of people as well as other more well known artists. On the eastern side of the state the University of Northern Iowa has the best facilities to put on a show. There is a concentration of people on the eastern border so it is not surprising that there would be a venue on that side of the state. The western side of the state doesn’t really have a large venue, but just across the river is Omaha. That is where western Iowa fans go to view their favorite bands. And I can’t forget one of the best venues – the Iowa State Fair. For ten days out of the year the grandstand is filled to overflowing with a different attraction each evening.

Search for Rolling Stones Concert Tickets online.

January 21st, 2008

I waited in line for hours for the Rolling Stones tickets. Back then, I wasn’t as tech savvy as I am now. I thought that the best way to get tickets was to be right outside when the doors opened. Unfortunately, by that point a lot of them had already been sold to online buyers. Nonetheless, I still got good seats. I had a lot of money saved up, and was able to spring for the really premium viewing options. When I walked away with my Rolling Stones ticket, I was as happy as I could be.

The Who World Tour 2007

June 27th, 2007

The Who have been around since the mid sixties and are still going strong. The U.K. leg of their latest tour is now coming to a close with a couple of home turf gigs at Wembley Arena, almost just round the corner from where they grew up.

With over 40 years worth of material to choose from it must be a case of what to leave out the set rather than what to put in it.

With Keith Moon and John Entwhistle sadly departed the flag continues to be flown by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend, now both in their early sixties.

Aerosmith – Hyde Park

June 25th, 2007

The sun may not have been shining at Hyde Park yesterday, but Aerosmith still played a pretty hot set. As ever Steven Tyler was centre stage, but the rest of Aerosmith can play a bit too and it’s difficult to upstage Joe Perry anyway. I was going to say that the set was made up of mainly older songs, but when you consider the last Aerosmith studio album of their own songs was back in 2001 perhaps that’s not surprising. Anyway who needs new songs when you have a back catalogue the size of Aerosmith’s and so many songs to choose from. The set time was around one hour and twenty five minutes so in many ways it is more a case of what gets left out rather than what gets put in. For a more detailed account of the show try the gig review from Where’s My Groupie: Aerosmith Hyde Park

Velvet Revolver Review – Hammersmith Apollo

June 6th, 2007

Last night I popped along to a hot and sweaty Hammersmith Apollo to see Velvet Revolver. The boys were on fire as they ran through a slick set based mainly on their first album, Contraband. They also used the show to play a couple of new numbers from the forthcoming Libertad CD.

What can I say about them? Slash is Slash so we were assured of the usual red hot licks to really set the audience buzzing. Scott Weiland is an excellent front man. Plenty of energy, with the audience in the palm of his hand. There are not too many quality hard rocking bands around at the moment, so Velvet Revolver are a bit of a treat if this is for you.

For a second opinion take a look at the Where’s My Groupie Velvet Revolver Review – Hammersmith Apollo

Think I will be picking up a copy of Libertad as soon as it hits the shops.

Denis Leary – His CDs Don’t Get Much Radio Play

January 1st, 2007

Denis Leary, born 1957 in Worcester, MA, is a multi-talented writer, director, comedian, and actor. Well known for his angsty, off-color humor, his career started on MTV during a comedy sketch where he ripped on REM. Best known as a stand-up comedian, he has released two full-length comedy albums, No Cure for Cancer and Lock’n’Load. Though admittedly not much of a musician, Leary’s off-color song “Asshole” became extremely popular in 1994, receiving a great deal of notoriety both inside and outside the United States. However, the song’s language kept it off of most major U.S. radio playlists, though it was huge on Australian radio stations.

Roger Waters: Troubled, But Still In The Pink

December 31st, 2006

There are some rock gods who do not strut about, do scissor jumps or crowd surf. Roger Waters is one of them. He’s no oil painting and he doesn’t attract the attention of the paparazzi. He transcends all of this and holds his place in history as one of the greatest songwriters of all time. His lyrics are especially admired, for their ability to explore emotions.

Children and music-should they start early?

December 29th, 2006

 Before the age of three, toy instruments can be an excellent introduction to the real thing and group musical play classes can prepare a child for later study. Singing at any age is highly beneficial and linguistic & musical awareness can begin as early as the fifth month of pregnancy when the fetal brain and ears are wide open to receive stimulus. From the age of 3 years old, a child’s brain circuits are mature enough to begin instrumental and/or vocal lessons. Voice is probably the most important instrument because singing is a tremendous gateway to confident communication and full self-expression. The piano is usually the best musical instrument to start with because it does not require any specific fingering to play. However, children should choose instruments to play by the sounds they like. Kids will practice more if they like the sound of an instrument.Click word study for the rest of this article.
