Kareoke discs are specially formatted discs that have lyrics and music. There are two major karaoke disc formats: VCD and CD+G. CD+G discs are mainly audio CDs, having extra lyric data. They can be played on a CD player, though the images are low in quality. VCD or “Video CD” can support MPEG-compressed video of high quality. This format, while popular in Asia, has some catching up to do here in America. There are also DVDs and karaoke laser discs.

Many a DJ will take a different approach when selecting dance music. For DJ’s, combining the old and the new is what dance music is all about. Whether it is in mash-ups or remixes, this has forever been the way that people thought about creating dance mix music. Knowing what kind of music the kids are listening to past and present is what it’s all about. Chances are good a song will make it into your mix if you hear it playing on a cell phone ring tone, but just because it’s on your cell phone doesn’t mean that you should only use the latest music hits. There are many older songs that have withstood the test of time and would do well in your mix, and believe me, people will be happy to dance to that music again.

According to the Missouri Tourist Guide, the southern part of the state is chock full of small recording studios. Branson is especially rich in these small gems, probably because of all the country western recording stars there. These jewels produce some of the best music I’ve heard. There are mostly local artists who don’t get much advertising so they are never going to become famous, but they produce their own CDs here and you can purchase many of them right at the studio. There is no great quantity made, but the prices are very reasonable. These people want to get their music out into the public more than they want to make money. Usually the cost just reflects the cost to produce the CD and they can go quite cheep. In fact, if you find the right artist in the right place with the right frame of mind, sometimes it’s free. You get some music that none of your friends will have and just because these people aren’t famous doesn’t mean that there is any lack of quality. Of course dealing at this level you can get some real pigs too, so watch yourself. Make sure you hear at least a little bit of the CD before you decide on what you want to purchase.

Growing up seeing rock stars on TV, I got the wrong idea about music. Sure, I was passionate about playing music from the time I was little, but that wasn’t what I was really all about. Every time I would pick up my guitar, my drumsticks, my bass, or any of the other instruments I was playing, I would picture myself rocking out in front of cheering millions. By the time I was 15, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but even so I knew I would make it one day. After all, I was already playing shows in friend’s basement, and had even had a paid gig or two. I never pictured spending my life as a wedding dj.

Whether you are having your wedding in a church, temple, the beach or at someone’s house, the music you select will set the tone and determine the type of atmosphere for your wedding ceremony as well as the reception. Of course you can plan totally different types of music for your reception than for your wedding, but each will set it’s own tone.
It’s important to spend time planning all this out ahead of time and be sure that you have thought out the style and atmosphere you want for each event. If you are hiring a band or DJ for your reception, be sure to ask for a list of their repertoire ahead of time and let them know not only what you would like to have played and what you don’t want played. What you don’t want could be as important as what you want.
