Basically, a bass amplifier is like anything else. The more money you spend on it, the better product you can get. Nevertheless, if you’re willing to buy second hand, you can do very well for yourself. You see, almost everyone wants to play guitar or bass at one point in their life. At least 90% of these people, however, later give it up. Perhaps they don’t have music in their souls, or perhaps they get involved in another instrument. For whatever the reason, used guitars and basses are some of the most easy to find musical instruments. There are so many out there, in fact, that if you know what to look for, you can get quite a discount.

John Kain knows what he’s talking about when it comes to guitar amps. Check out his article about the varied sorts of amplification available:
“If you’re reading this article, you’re probably unsure of what kind of amp you want to get. You probably already have a guitar, but what good is an electric or bass guitar without an amplifier? Not much, in all honesty. Without a good, high quality guitar amp, your guitar - regardless of how expensive it is - won’t sound as good as it potentially can. Generally, you have four options when looking for a guitar amp: tube amps, solid state amps, digital amps, and hybrid amps. Below I’ll give a brief summary of each type.”
Personally I love the sound produced by vintage Fender guitar amplifiers.

Peter Lenkefi has written a great article about the tradition of Fender guitars. Here’s a short excerpt:
Without a doubt, Fender guitars are the top-of-the-line in guitars. Success in business is often measured according to the amount of money and sales a company is able to secure. The success of the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation proves there are two other elements to consider: dedication and perseverance. From the beginning, it was company owner Leo Fender’s main goal to fender guitars the best as possible. The first fruits of his labor would prove positive his dedication He would reach his goal by designing the Telecaster, a solid-body electric guitar with a Spanish design. This guitar, like many Fender guitars that would follow, was the first of its kind. Only a few years after gaining fame with the Telecaster, Fender followed with the Precision Bass and Stratocaster. These Fender guitars are now collector’s items.
