Wireless Audio Headphones Grow in Popularity

March 2nd, 2010

Headphones have been around for a long time virtually from the invention of radio. However headphones for audio, particularly stereo headphones did not appear until 1958. It was John C. Koss who first brought them to market specifically to listen to music. At last one could mimic the music hall, people were astounded and they quickly became popular. Koss are a major wireless headphone maker today.

It was not until the 70s that wireless technology began to appear in volume and what a relief it was to be. No longer did you need to be tethered to your HI Fi, now you could move around at will. The first units were not so clever, sound quality was not as good as the wired versions and range was useless too. Nowadays all that has changed. Wireless audio headphones are now so good its hard to spot the difference with the wired variety. Consisting of a transmitter connected to your device and a receiver built into the headphones the most versatile are RF or radio frequency wireless headphones. These units work no matter where you are in your home. IR units or infrared are just as good sound quality but only operate on a line of site basis which means that you need to be within the same room as the transmitting device.

Nowadays wireless headphones are used for watching TV, computing, gaming and even your IPod can be connected. No wonder that wireless sales are now outstripping the corded sets as people discover the freedom these headsets give the user.

Let Your House Make Money as a Film Location

May 25th, 2009

Let Your House Make Money as a Film Location

Every director will tell you, the right film location can make or break a project. Besides the leading actors and the quality of the script, it’s the setting that ultimately creates the world we escape to when we’re sitting in the movie theater. Think about it. Remember the tree-lined sidewalk and the classic contemporary home used in the horror masterpiece, Halloween? How about the climax of Scarface, when Al Pacino takes on the Feds from his balcony? Or, how can you forget the retro-style of one of television’s most famous homes used in The Brady Bunch? It’s California film locations like these that add believability and authenticity to the fantastic worlds we love to watch.

Believe it or not, Hollywood doesn’t build a set for every movie or television program that comes along. In fact, many of the California film locations used in your favorite TV shows and movies are real-life homes and businesses. People actually own these properties. And by renting them out for Hollywood film projects, they can generate an impressive income.

Los Angeles Film Locations are in High Demand

These days, with the price of construction materials and other building considerations, it’s much more cost-effective for studios to simply rent out a home or building rather than create an entire set. This is especially the case with independent films. As a homeowner, you can use this to your advantage and allow your home to be used as a movie backdrop. Scouts are constantly on the lookout for unique California film locations, and if yours is chosen, you could receive a handsome income for the right to use your property.

How to Have Your Home Considered as a Los Angeles Film Location

If you want to maximize the income potential of your property by making it available to Hollywood, you need to get the home in front of the scouts who are searching for California film locations. The easiest way to do this is to submit your property to a location agency that specializes in providing a searchable directory of properties for Hollywood location scouts.

5 Star Film Locations, Inc. can help your property become a star! When you submit your property to 5 Star, it is categorized properly so scouts don’t have to look far to find exactly what they’re looking for. In addition, your property will be well-represented through a series of full-color professional photographs, giving California film location scouts an immediate visual impression of your home or business. Whether your home is a bungalow, an English Tudor or a Victorian, it can become a star when it is made available as a California film location. Visit Film Locations Los Angeles today to submit your California film location or call 323-654-3900 and speak to one of our experienced agents.

Looking to Combat Economic Woes? List Your Home as a Film Location!

May 23rd, 2009

Looking to Combat Economic Woes? List Your Home as a Film Location!

While the housing market may provide more scares and shivers these days than the weekly horror movie offering, there’s no reason why your home can’t be making, rather than costing, you a small fortune. The answer? List your home as a California film location.

How Can I List My Home as a California Film Location?

The big studios employ personnel whose only job is to search for and find the perfect California film locations. These individuals are called location scouts, and they have an excellent idea of what kind of backdrop the director is looking for. To make their job easier and more time-efficient, many of these scouts utilize the services of professional location agencies.

Location agencies keep a directory of properties that are available for use as Hollywood production rentals. For the maximum exposure and the best opportunity, homeowners should first list their property with a reputable location agency. Similar to a traditional real estate agency, a location agency only serves those property owners looking to rent their property to Hollywood and the scouts looking for the ideal setting.

How Much Money can I Make by Listing my Home as a California Film Location?

Imagine - you could receive between $500 and $10,000 a day for renting your home for use in a Hollywood production. Ultimately, the amount you can receive is dependant upon a variety of factors, including the studio doing the filming and how long they will be needing the space, but the truth is, there is a substantial amount of money available to homeowners who offer their house or property as a California film location.

Another bonus is the fact that film notoriety can benefit homeowners if and when it comes time to sell their property. At a time when real estate markets are down, owning a little piece of Hollywood lore can impact how much potential buyers are willing to spend on a property.

For more information about listing your property as a California film location, visit California film location or call 323-654-3900 today.

California Film Location

May 21st, 2009

Turn Your Home Into a California Film Location

Does your home have what it takes to star in a major motion picture? If you believe that it does, then why not submit your property for consideration as a California film location?

Registering your home as a Los Angeles film location can provide you with a number of exciting benefits, including:

• Being paid by the studios for the use of your property (sometimes thousands of dollars per day!)
• Once featured in a film, your property value will increase
• Your property will be forever known as the one seen in “insert blockbuster title here.”

Many of our favorite films feature memorable, real-life California film locations. For instance, the home of Christopher Lloyd’s character, “Doc” Brown, in the film, Back to the Future, is someone’s actual house in Pasadena, CA. Also in Pasadena are the houses used in Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Zathura, among many others.

The owners of these properties were paid handsome sums of money for allowing Hollywood production crews to film in and around their homes. And the great thing is, once you register your property as a California film location, it can be used over and over again. Feature films, television programs and commercials all require real-life backdrops and Los Angeles film locations, so why can’t it be your property?

Registering your property, home or business as a California film location is simple. Just visit FiveStarFilmLocations.com and click on the “Submit a Property” tab. Then, simply fill in the criteria. A professional photographer will take numerous photos of your property so film location scouts will have a great idea of what type of filming opportunities are capable at your location. Once chosen, your property will then join the ranks of some of Hollywood’s most beloved California film locations.

California Location Scouts

May 19th, 2009

Job Profile: California Location Scouts

In the Hollywood film industry, California location scouts are integral to the successful production of any project, from a 30-second commercial to a feature film. While the opening credits may run the names of the film’s stars, producers and directors, it’s the scout who is ultimately responsible for delivering the backdrops and settings for the believability of the project. If the project’s setting doesn’t compliment the acting taking place on screen, the fans, or targeted customers, will know it.

So, what are the job duties of California location scouts? How do they go about finding locations? Are there different job titles in a studio’s scouting department? In this article, we look at what it takes to be a California location scout.

The Job Duties of California Location Scouts

The primary job duty for a film location scout is to find the ideal settings for the film project. This is initiated in the pre-production of a project between the director, producer and the scout. Once the scout has a good idea of the director’s vision for the film, according to the script, the scout will do their best to find properties or businesses that meet the attributes the script calls for. But in truth, a California location scout’s job is not always so cut-and-dry.

A studio’s location department has a full detail of duties that need to be managed properly for the project’s shooting schedule to remain on target. And these important tasks can keep the department busy from pre-production all the way through the wrap.

California Location Scouts, Managers and More

Every studio location department has a number of professionals employed under its umbrella and each is responsible for a certain aspect of the location finding process.

Location Managers oversee the entire location department and report directly to the Production Manager. This individual has the responsibility of guaranteeing permission to use the location that’s desired for filming. They’re also responsible for budget management related to the film’s locations.

The California location scout does most of the research necessary for finding the properties the production team needs. This often requires traveling to locations, taking photos and searching for available properties online.

Location assistants work with the scouts and managers to handle the general responsibilities, such as maintaining location cleanliness, handling neighbor concerns and much more.

The Ideal Resource for California Location Scouts
The best California location scouts have an assortment of resources at their disposal, from personally-compiled locations to expansive online databases of registered film locations. FiveStarFilmLocations.com has thousands of such properties available for consideration by California location scouts. Each location is complete with property details and full-color photos to make the selection process as simple and time-friendly as possible. Visit California Location Scouts today and try a customizable search for the ideal film location.

Do You Have What It Takes To Be The Next American Idol Winner?

July 13th, 2008

As with most things in life, first impressions count, and it is important that you make a good first impression with the audience. The way you look and are dressed has a huge influence on the audience. If you do your American Idol auditions with the Sanjaya look, with a huge pony hawk, you will not likely to be taken very seriously as a performer. On the contrary, you will more than likely be considered the joke of the show. If you want the audience and the American Idol judges to see you as a consummate professional, you need to have fun with your performance, without looking like a class clown trying to sing. I say this because there have been far too many American Idol contestants who move from having a wonderfully good time to looking clownish with their performances. There will never be an American Idol winner dressed in a clown suit, so dress for success.

How To Get Yourself Ready For American Idol Auditions

July 6th, 2008

Look, if you are a talented performer, please do not build up the American Idol auditions to more than they really are. Sure, doing well on your American Idol audition is important, but if you should have a poor performance and are voted off of American Idol, so what, it is not the end of your career. There are a plethora of other shows, musicals, and plays for you to try out for, and being on American Idol is far from the only way for a talented performer to get their career going in the showbiz industry. It is important to give it your very best, but don’t put needless pressure on yourself by making too big a deal out of it. Most importantly, don’t ever let anyone, especially jealous friends or family, discourage you from giving it your all. What other people think should not matter at all, if you think you are good enough to be the next American Idol winner, then go for it!

TV’ systems are assembled out of a selection of components, so a TV which doesn’t have an interior tuner to get the broadcast signals is identified as a monitor instead of a TV. Now the future is now, TVs have advanced on a little and technology has advanced, televisions in recent times are manufactured to attain various telly broadcasts or video setups, similar to that of high definition tellies generally referred to as HDTV. David Cook Prevails On American Idol

May 23rd, 2008

Surprise, surprise. David Cook won American Idol even after the judges had all but handed the title to David Archuleta the night before. Cook won by twelve million votes so it wasn’t even close. Right before the results were announced, Simon Cowell apologized to Cook for being overly critical of his peformance the night before and said after looking at it again it was much closer than he originally thought. Cowell said that he didn’t care who won for the first time in the seven seasons the show has been on. Hmm…did Cowell know or suspect what the results were already?

Electronics guide to DVD Systems

April 23rd, 2008

What is a Digital Versatile Disc Recorder; it normally is a disc recorder that allows you to tape your favourite terrestrial nature programs or videos onto recordable Digital Discs. They are obtainable either as installable backup drives for laptop computer or as individual components for use in studios or residential cinema systems. When DVD Recorders were first on the market you could be expected to pay anything up to three thousand pounds for an entry system, this is lately no longer the case.

Digital Versatile Disc Recorders are now exceedingly well-liked and have completely taken over the tape recorder, which is now more or less history. Like all things that include a technology base behind it there are many similar DVD systems to pick from. The most chic ones to go for are ones with built in storage Drives. This is a recording piece of equipment but it doesn’t offer viewers to pause and rewind similar to what you would be able to-do on live television. The idea of the Hard Drive in the Digital Versatile Disc system is so that you are capable to store many terrestrial programmes to the Hard Drive which can afterwards be backed-up onto a re-writable Digital Versatile Disc. In addition to this you can burn straight to DVD. Click here to find huge savings on many DVD Recorders at Digital Direct.

A lot of Digital Versatile Disc systems with backup drives in the main incorporate an Electronic Programme Guide for programming recordings. There are currently various DVD Systems with Hard backup drives available from respected brands like that of Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba & others.

The good thing currently is that DVD hard drive systems have under no circumstances been so kind to your wallet, so it’s possible for you to purchase a top of the range systems for a very good price tag. The market is determined by the latest tools, new innovations & product quality, of which these are varying nearly every day of the week.

Cooking music

February 21st, 2008

I received emails from both Nicole of the baking sheet and debbie of words to eat by this past week, “tagging” me for the food blogging meme, music to cook to. My first thought was “I don’t listen to a great deal of music…and I don’t know anything about music anymore”, and I passed the task along to S. and his extensive music tastes and knowledge. He diligently answered the questions and then sent his writing along to me.

I sat on that email for a few days, indulging myself in Sugar High Fridays (great job, Clement!) and making dinner for a good friend on Saturday night (recipes to come later). I thought about it more and more and realized that the questions, though slightly foreign to me (why, I don’t know, I did used to work in a record store for crying out loud!), were directed at the food blogger in the house. And, although I have tried to convince S. to start a food blog himself he has yet to do that…and having him answer the questions for me was taking the easy way out.

So I redid them myself. Try not to be disappointed

Are The Contestants On The American Idol Tour Talented Enough?

December 17th, 2007
I guess, the fact that some of those contestants on the American Idol tour didn’t work for it kind of irks me. I’m not saying the contestants weren’t talented, but what I am saying is that some of those contestants didn’t earn their shot. There are performers out there who have toiled for years and are far more talented. They didn’t get a television show to boost their careers, and they are far more deserving of such notice. The American Idol tour just seemed to magnify just how inconsistent the American audiences can be, and that in some cases you can just stick anyone up there and audiences will buy into it.

Thinking About Hiring a Tribute Band? Check Them Out 1st Before It’s Too Late!

September 20th, 2007
If you are planning a special occasion, such as a wedding, party or even a corporate event, it might be a great idea to hire a tribute band. DJs are common and so are cover bands but a great tribute band can really get your party going with a swing and are not as expensive as you might think.

Tribute bands have become hugely popular, some of them are so close to the real thing that it is almost impossible to tell them apart. There are also some dreadful ones around, so if you are considering a tribute band, you need to make sure you use a reputable company, preferably one who has been in business for a while, provides you with plenty of choice, is reasonably priced and has testimonials from past happy customers. A bad tribute band can ruin your special day or party, or be embarrassing if it is a corporate function, so it is best to be cautious and do some research before booking the first tribute band you happen to come across.

There are many tribute acts in the UK and the choice is immense. Whether you are looking for Abba tribute bands, Beatles tribute bands, Queen tribute bands, cover tribute bands or something quite different, the odds are very good that you will be able to find just what you are looking for. Tribute bands are great fans of the originals themselves and will go to great lengths to look and sound just like them, paying attention to every last detail so their customers get the most authentic experience possible. There have been many TV shows featuring tribute bands and impersonators. Some of the most popular shows today include Pop Idol and Stars in Their Eyes because people love tribute acts and impersonators.

The first ever tribute bands were probably The Beatles and Elvis. Today, there are literally hundreds of Elvis tribute acts in the UK alone! Famous tribute bands include Bjorn Again (Abba) and Beatlemania (The Beatles) and tribute band names are often a pun of the original name. Many tribute bands these days are well known and have their own fan bases. Hiring a tribute band is a way of bringing your favourite stars to your own party or event. Rather than go to an impersonal concert, you can share the enjoyment with your friends and family in your own settings. After the show, you can even mingle with the stars!

If you are not sure which tribute band would be the best, have a think about the occasion. If it is your daughter, perhaps an Anastacia impersonator would be ideal to get the party started or how about some Kylie? For a slightly older audience, you could consider Bee Gees tribute bands, Rolling Stones tribute bands, Blondie tribute bands or even Beach Boys tribute bands. For something a little different, there are even Jam tribute bands, U2 tribute bands, Blues Bros tribute bands and everything in between. Browsing artistes on the internet lets you see the performers photos too so you can see how much they resemble the original artiste.

If you are still not sure what would be the best thing, you can browse performers online or talk to someone in the tribute band hire company and see what they can suggest. Try to book your act as soon a possible to guarantee availability of your favourite band but even if you are booking at the last minute, you might still be able to get a great tribute band if you’re lucky.

As I have mentioned, you have to be very careful about how you find tribute bands. There are plenty of unscrupulous companies around who wouldn’t think twice about taking your money and sending a second rate performer or band. There are probably more scam agencies than good ones so you do need to take care. You can shop around for the best price but remember that if a tribute band is extremely cheap, this could indicate that they are not very good! Hiring a bad band could ruin your party and be humiliating for you since you are the one responsible for booking them in the first place. If you want to hire a tribute band always shop around first before committing yourself to any particular act or company.

If you’d like further information about hiring a tribute band for your special event try visiting http://www.tributebandreviews.co.uk A site that specializes in providing information and independent reviews about tribute bands.

Paula Abdul of American Idol - was she drunk?

January 18th, 2007

Ahhhh…. Paula Abdul… what a beauty! And what a dancer! And hey - I actually liked her music!

But does Paula have what it takes to be a thriving part of the American Idol committee? She’s been having a much harder time lately getting the words out of her mouth. With good reason, she has had her medical problems. Drunken behavior may not be a fair accusation.

Paula Abdul has survived what has finally been discovered as a rare, painful chronic neurological disorder: Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD).

Rapper Flava Flav scores big with Flavor of Love

December 3rd, 2006

TV Robot reports that Flava Flav is kicking some tv bootie!

A survey of viewing habits reveals the finale of Flavor of Love was one of the “highest rated in Vh1 history.” And an informal sweep over the fan sites shows that despite her histrionic appeal, New York was so not right for the man who prefers peace over explosive attitudes and actions. So what the critics think might just have to take a second-row seat to what the fans believe and feel.
