A good attorney specializing in the music will know how to properly negotiate and structure the deals an artist makes. They should have good contacts and be trust worthy. Expect to pay between 100 and 200 per hour for a good music attorney. I know, you will have difficulty sleeping as you worry about those fees but this is how it is done. If an attorney thinks you will get signed, they fore-go a set fee and charge a percentage of artists earnings. In bigger cities, you’ll pay more than in smaller cities.

Learning how to start your own record label is a bit easier than most people would think. You see, there isn’t that much to starting a record label. It used to cost many times as much as it does now, but thanks to advances in digital technology, you can probably start a record label with your own home computer and a few thousand dollars worth of equipment. The difficulty is not with learning how to start your own record label. That part is easy. The difficulty is making that record label profitable.

When music first became available in a home listening format, it was engraved on large wax disks. Stored in compressed paper sleeves, the artwork reflected the classical music popular at the time. Black and white printing was the only kind available. At first, classical works of art were sketched and then printed on the covers. For example, the Venus de Milo was printed for Korsakov’s musical styling. As the technology of photography developed, a few select albums had photographs of classical art printed on them. People from that time would have been shocked at how the album cover would evolve.
