One of the
Elvis Presley greatest hits that became very popular even before it was formally recorded was a song named Hound Dog. “Hound Dog” was actually on the flip side of what many considered Elvis Presley’s greatest hit and most successful single “Don’t Be Cruel”, with both sides spending 11 weeks at the top of the charts. Elvis Presley became controversial over the gyrating hip movements he did while singing “Hound Dog” during appearances on several different shows. Those gyrating hip movements would become his trademark even though they initially caused such a firestorm of controversy.

Alternative Music embodies a different musical approach and an “anything but” philosophy to the status quo of rock and roll. This movement in music has existed in other forms through the years. Punk, for example, was arguably a precursor to what later developed as Alternative Music. The idea of Alternative Music is music and bands that are not in the mainstream. The genre of Alternative Music currently is hard to define. The wave that started in the early 90s has subsided and has left a lot of carbon copies in its aftermath.

Certainly, not all Christian music or Christian song makes good church music. As far as church singing goes, a great deal of the time and tradition has gone into it. Nevertheless, there is nothing that beats a resonant choir of voices signing choruses of hallelujah up to the highest heavens. On the other hand, there are some churches that use contemporary Christian music to good effect. Churches with a strong youth services program works in this way. It has been proven many times that, through their music is the best way to reach out to kids. Trust me in this! There is nothing inherently wrong with rock ‘n roll, or even rap if the lyrics are of good spirit and if it suits the tastes of our younger generation. In the end, it’s all about reaching out to folks in hopes of making new believers of them.

Whenever we listened to rock and roll on the radio, he would come over and either turn it off or change it to a country western music station. Like most southern farmers, he hated rock and roll and he thought country western music was the only music worth listening to. While I was exposed to rock and roll through some of my best friends, as I got older I listened to country western music more often than not. I guess I held my father’s opinion of it. When I went to college, I began dating a young lady that listened to country western music all the time. She said she liked country western music for the stories the singers sang about.

No recurring monthly membership payments. The Rhapsody Music Store is great for music lovers who only want a small number of music downloads each month and a monthly membership is not worth as much to them. They would rather simply pay a small price to download specific music and in a limited quantity. The Rhapsody Music Store is the very place for these people to find and download the music that they choose. For those people music lovers who download tons of music every single month I recommend a monthly membership in Rhapsody Unlimited, it is an excellent value.

There are many wonderful things I love about Christmas time, but one of the best are the Christmas songs that my mom would play all during the weeks leading up to Christmas Day. My mom would either be singing Christmas songs on her own or playing Christmas songs on the stereo. Christmas music, not my mom’s singing (just kidding mom), always made the holidays a bit more exciting, and is probably why my wife and I enjoy doing the same things each year for our kids. Music has the gift of bringing back our fondest memories and feelings from long ago, and Christmas songs are no exception.

There are so many great artists out there, across all kinds of genres. Every once in a while there is a band or artist that becomes synonymous with a certain city or area. Its hard not to think of Jimmy Buffet when Florida Beaches, particularly the Florida Keys, comes to mind. Jack Johnson is the image of Hawaii for his legion of fans.
For me, The Red Hot Chili Peppers have always been the quintessential image and sound of California. As I drove around looking at apartments for rent in Los Angeles, the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the car CD player were a big part of the experience. It was an even dose of Californication and By The Way on that day. The Chili Peppers pay homage to Los Angeles probably as much or more than any artist or band recognizes a single place in their song lyrics. The guys from the Peppers are not just transplants playing the role of LA rockers, these guys are born and raised in LA and alumni of Fairfax High School in West Hollywood.
While my LA days were short-lived, popping in a RHCP disc quickly brings me back to the beauty and excitement of Southern California. It takes a special artist to become such an integral part of the image of a city and the Chili Peppers

The singer songwriter boom of the 1970s owed a lot to James Taylor, an artist who has been recording and performing ever since and who has written songs that became classics. Most people can hum a James Taylor song and he has the respect of fellow musicians. His contribution was officially recognized when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.

For decades musician Billy Joel has made rock and roll hit after rock and roll hit but has not produced an album/CD since 1993. Billy Joel’s fans are eagerly awaiting his next album/CD and can only wait and wonder. Not many solo artists have had as much success as Billy Joel, with hits in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. A new Billy Joel album release was always an event. He is the sixth best selling artist in the US and has won a Grammy award six times. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. A prolific songwriter, he has recorded classical music too, which was an early interest for him when he was learning the piano. Nicknamed the Piano Man, it’s a good thing for music that he gave up his successful amateur boxing career as a teenager.

I try to tell my husband to stop doing it, but when he has to find songs he tends to wander onto the illegal music sharing sites. I have huge issues with this for three reasons. The first is that it’s illegal and I know that not everyone using these sites will have any problems, but I just have that kind of luck. Secondly, when you download their file sharing software onto your computer you get more than you wanted. You not only have that software messing with your computer, you have to deal with the viruses and spyware that come with a lot of the free songs.

Christmas music is a genre which is normally performed during the time period leading up to, and sometimes shortly past, Christmas. Christmas songs frequently are the focus of holiday themes directly taken from Christmas, but occasionally they have no content addressing the holiday, and instead focus on the winter season as a whole. These songs recognisably fall into several different groupings, depending on both the time and melody of the songs.
